Jersey City on Kitty Hawk’s Radar for Air Taxi Service into NYC

Silicon Valley eVTOL developer Kitty Hawk Corporation hopes to deploy its vehicles along the Jersey City Hudson River waterfront to offer transit service into Manhattan. Kitty Hawk filed its plans with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).

By submitting individual “waterward” and “landward” permit applications in August of this year, the company revealed its intention to build a temporary hangar and a temporary floating dock for its Kitty Hawk Flyer eVTOL pilot test programs.

The Flyer aims to fly three to 10 feet above the water using 10 “lift fans.” Back by Google co-founder Larry Page, Flyer has already flown more than 25,000 times in trials.

Flyer CEO Sebastian Thrun told the Guardian the trip from the Jersey shore into NYC could take “less than two minutes” using only about 10 cents worth of electric energy.
