Volocopter Appoints New CTO

Volocopter has announced Arnaud Coville as its new Chief Technical Officer following Jan-Hendrik Boelens’ decision to leave the company.

Coville, who has extensive experience as an engineer in new aircraft development, originally came onboard as Head of VoloCity Development in May 2020. VoloCity is the German company’s fourth-generation eVTOL design.

“Electrically powered air taxis will change aviation as we know it,” Coville said. “Together with the talented team of experts here at Volocopter, we will bring the very first air taxi for safe urban travel to the market!”

Coville earned his PhD in automatic control and robotics. He has helped develop aircraft with companies such as Safran, Fairchild Dornier, Diehl Avionik, and Airbus Helicopter.

“Jan-Hendrik has done tremendous work for Volocopter,” stated Volocopter CEO Florian Reuter in a press release. “He has led the VoloCity development and helped us reach defining milestones, including conducting several public flights and receiving Design Organisation Approval by EASA.”

Boelens will continue consulting at Volocopter to ensure a smooth transition until the end of 2020.

Founded in 2011, Volocopter employs 150 in Bruchsal, Munich, and Singapore. The company  has raised a total of 122 million euro in equity. Investors include Daimler, Geely, DB Schenker, Intel Capital, Team Europe, btov, Micron, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group, TransLink Capital (Japan Airlines and Sompo Japan Insurance), MS&AD Ventures, and Manta Ray Ventures.
