UAM By the Numbers in the EU

The European Union Aviation and Space Agency (EASA) released the results of a survey it conducted among EU citizens to gauge their attitudes about urban air mobility. In general, EU denizens have a positive attitude toward integrating UAM into their lives.

“As a result of this study, for the first time, EASA and the EU have insights into what the general public in Europe thinks about this entirely new development in the field of aviation,” said EASA Executive Director Patrick Ky. “For EASA as a regulator this information is crucial. It will allow us to set up the rules and regulations for this area in a way that is aligned with the expectations and perceptions of citizens.”

Here are some of the highlights of the survey results:

83% — The percentage of EU citizens who have expressed an initial positive attitude toward UAM.

64% — The percentage of EU citizens ready to try drones.

49% — The percentage of EU citizen willing to give air taxis a go.

41% — The percentage of EU citizens who support using UAM to transport an injured person to a hospital.

41% — The percentage of EU citizens in favor of drone delivery of groceries or medical supplies to hospitals.

36% — The percentage of EU citizens approving of transporting emergency medical supplies by UAM.

44% — The percentage of EU citizens worried about drone safety.

38% — The percentage of EU citizens anxious about air taxi noise.

35% — The percentage of EU citizens concerned about drones’ potential impact on the environment.

62% — EU citizens worried about drones having a negative impact on animals.

68% — of EU residents who would prefer a drone deliver to their garden (yard) versus 67% who would rather drones deliver to a neighborhood station.
