Transformative Vertical Flight 2020 Conference January 2020 in San Jose, CA
Recent market studies commissioned by NASA and several financial investment and analysis companies have caused major players in the mainstream aerospace industry to reverse course on their earlier dismissive attitudes about the eVTOL sector when it was first emerging in 2011-2016.
The research suggests that as many as 100,000 eVTOL aircraft will be in commercial service in the coming decades. Aerospace giants have taken notice of what might be a US$500 billion to US$2 trillion eVTOL market.
That brings new focus and attention to the Vertical Flight Society’s Transformative Vertical Flight 2020 Conference, which will be held in San Jose, CA, January 21-23, 2020.
Approximately US$2 billion has been invested in the development of eVTOLs, according to Mike Hirschberg, executive director of the Vertical Flight Society (VFS). VFS now counts more than 230 eVTOL aircraft concepts hoping to see commercial service in its World eVTOL Aircraft Directory.
The latest iteration of the annual event will include more than 120 presentations at three concurrent meetings. Sixty-five speakers and 60-some technical paper authors will inform and educate attendees on the latest technical advances, key challenges, and pioneering solutions being considered.
NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), US Army Future Vertical Lift (FVL) program, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), Bell, Lockheed Martin and Uber will all offer their insights at the conference. The lineup includes: The 7th Annual Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) Symposium, The International Powered Lift Conference (IPLC), and The Aeromechanics for Advanced Vertical Flight Technical Meeting.
“Many of the VFS’s 120 corporate and 6,000 individual members in industry, government and academia are leading these eVTOL programs or contributing to their development,” added Hirschberg.
